Sue & Eugene Hanmer Sue and Gene Hanmer were loving parents, and are deeply missed by those who knew them.
Sue faced her battle with breast cancer courageously and she never gave up hope that someday, somehow they would find a treatment or cure that would help her go on living.
Gene supported his wife through her illness and soon after her death, faced his own battle with lung cancer. He fought hard and died with the dream that someday others would benefit from what he went through. He participated in trials and studies he knew would probably not benefit him in his fight and shared the vision for a dedicated lung cancer treatment center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“My involvement is really about helping the UWCCC and honoring my parents. It’s a way to educate people about lung cancer and to create hope for people facing this terrible disease,” says their son Craig Hanson. “The golf tie-in is really a natural fit because my step-dad and I loved to golf together and had a lot of great memories on the course. He’s the one that introduced me to the game and there isn’t anything better than helping a great cause and having some fun while you do it!”
